These panels transform the sunken area of the Beard Courtyard in Mars Center for Science and Technology at Wheaton College into a lush, green, and contemplative space. When school begins in the fall, foliage from the landscaping hides the panels. As the seasons progress towards winter, the leaves fall, revealing the full image spanning an entire wall. On a hot summer day, I took many images of the wilder areas of the Wheaton campus and digitally collaged them, overlaying trees, sky, and shadows.

Selections from the 500 digital collage series Scenes from a Walk, printed on silk panels, hang from the ceiling, wafting in the currents of air created by people in the room. The layers of fabric move and cross one another, making the images difficult to discern. Representations of the body’s experience in the landscape, memories of that experience, and soft curtains blowing in the breeze of memory, the panels exist on multiple levels. They acknowledge the architecture of the space, as curtains divide and shield, and move within that space, floating, lightly tethered, embodied thoughts.
A separate selection of imagery from the Scenes from a Walk series fills a corner of the gallery, with a light glowing at the center.
